The Aachen region is an association of the city of Aachen, the Aachen city region, and the districts of Düren, Euskirchen, and Heinsberg. Approximately 1.3 million people live in 46 municipalities and cities within an area of around 3,500 km².
The Aachen region is a prosperous area characterized by medium-sized businesses, located at the tripoint of Germany, Belgium, and the Netherlands. With its universities RWTH Aachen and Aachen University of Applied Sciences, both focused on natural sciences and engineering, the Jülich Research Centre and numerous other research institutions, the Aachen region is a key technology and knowledge hub. A dense, technology-oriented business structure with a vibrant startup culture has developed around these universities.
The Aachen Region Association, as a regional development agency, shapes regional, supra-regional, and international networks and collaborations within the Euregio Meuse-Rhine. The association sees itself as a driving force for the strategic development of the Aachen region, fostering collaboration between politics and administration. Its experts develop strategies and concepts that represent improvements for the entire region in economic, infrastructural, tourism, cultural, and social terms. The Aachen region is a partner of KlimaExpo.NRW and the Aachen Health Region.
Its location at the tripoint of Germany, Belgium, and the Netherlands makes this region in the far west of NRW an international living and economic area. As a member of the cross-border Euregio Meuse-Rhine association, the region is closely integrated with its neighbors in Belgium and the Netherlands and also work closely with neighboring regions such as the Cologne/Bonn region, the Lower Rhine business park, the Rhineland Future Agency and the Rhine-Ruhr metropolitan region.
